We have spent the last seven weeks considering the gospel as God’s mission for the world, a call to enter the realm of and receive the gift of His kingdom or reign, and further understanding the gospel as a call to die to ourselves and all other allegiances in Christ’s death while embracing the call to live unto God in Christ the life that God always intended for us to live.  This truth of the gospel is not simply informational.  It if life-transformational!

At the center of the gospel story is the God-man Jesus the Christ.  In this Jesus, God has revealed Who He is and what His plans and purposes are for us.  Just think of the center of God’s gospel story.  A virgin has conceived the promised King who would deliver people from sin.  A voice has spoken from heaven announcing that this is the Son of God.  He is anointed for His earthly ministry which begins with a battle with Satan over what kind of Messiah Jesus would be.  In answering this question in the wilderness, our very lives hang in the balance!  Peter confesses that Jesus is the Christ while Jesus allows some of His disciples to see a glimpse of that glorious truth and its significance in the transfiguration.  Later, this Jesus hosts the Passover meal with His disciples and interprets the elements of this Lord’s Supper.  As He interprets, he describes His body and blood given for those who would follow Him.  Later that night, we find Him praying in the garden where the question of His obedience unto death on our behalf was settled.  A holy, innocent man dies a horrific death in our place and the world waits to see what will become of this Jesus the Christ.  Three days later, God raised this Jesus from the dead!  A man who was dead has been raised to life, never again to die!  This Jesus invites us to enter into the life that He now lives unto God just as He had called us to die the death to sin that He had died.  Because He is alive, so shall we live!  What a glorious truth.

For the next seven weeks, we consider the person and work of this Jesus the Christ.  After all, the gospel has been a call to participate in His life.  Since this is true, we should know something about His life and its significance for our lives.  While it is true that we have been created as God’s image to reflect His glorious character upon the earth, we recognize that sin has separated us from God and from who He intends for us to be.  However, in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, we have been given the right to become the children of God who have been freed from the bondage of sin.  We have further been freed to live and love as God has always intended.  In reality, we have been freed to be conformed to the image of One Man, namely, Jesus!  Since this is true, we long to know Him and better understand Who He is and what He has done for God’s honor and glory and for our flourishing as humans.  Please pray toward, read toward, and join us for our study of the Life of Christ: The Center of the Gospel Story!
